Using the Emergency button to decline consultation requests

The "Emergency" button is intended solely for genuine emergencies.

Updated over a week ago

Do not mark a consultation request as an emergency unless you assess that the patient should call 911 or head to their nearest hospital emergency room immediately.

When the emergency button is selected, the patient receives a notification directing them to seek immediate emergency care. If this is not an appropriate course of action for the patient's symptoms or medical condition, marking their request as an emergency may cause undue stress to the patient or burden their local emergency services.

In some cases, the option to reject the consultation request may not be available. For directions on accepting and providing care in these consultations, please refer to our Corporate Consultations Policy, available here.
